Project description:
Waste management is one of the most sensitive and problematic environmental issues in the countries bordering the southern and eastern Mediterranean basin.
The amount of waste generated has grown significantly in recent decades as a result of the growth in the rate of population growth, the increase in population concentration in coastal urban areas and the globalisation of trade.
The aim of this research is to provide an analysis of waste management policies in the countries bordering the southern and eastern Mediterranean basin, with particular regard to packaging waste, waste from electrical and electronic equipment and spent batteries. Countries covered by the research include Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, Greece, Slovenia, Croatia and the islands of Cyprus and Malta
