Waste Management in Mediterranean Countries

Analysis of waste management focusing on packaging, electronic equipment, batteries

Sustainable Development Goals:

Waste management is one of the most sensitive and problematic environmental issues in the countries bordering the southern and eastern Mediterranean basin. The amount of waste generated has grown significantly in recent decades as a result of the rate of population growth, the increase in population concentration in coastal urban areas and the globalisation of trade.

The aim of this research is to provide an analysis of waste management policies in the countries bordering the southern and eastern Mediterranean basin, with particular regard to packaging waste, waste from electrical and electronic equipment and exhausted batteries.

12 Countries covered by the research:

  • Algeria
  • Morocco
  • Tunisia
  • Lebanon
