A great event of territorial animation to raise public awareness of the importance of wetlands: the initiative, edited by MEDSEA, is part of a circuit of appointments around the world, systematized and disseminated through the site dedicated to the day (www.worldwetlandsday.org). The frame of reference for the day is the MARISTANIS project, aimed at defining an integrated management model for the wetlands of Oristano.
In Italy there are 43 official events organized for the World Wetlands Day, of which 13 in Sardinia and 9 in the Oristano area: 30% of the events take place in the precious setting of the island's wetlands. A great mobilization, therefore, for the campaign to raise awareness on the protection and enhancement of these ecosystems rich in biodiversity, which host multiple species of fauna and flora of extreme value, some of which are at risk of extinction.
Tomorrow, Saturday, February 2, the two moments of confrontation will be scheduled: in Oristano, at the Lido Restaurant, from 10 to 12.30, the scientific seminar promoted by MEDSEA is scheduled, entitled "What priorities for the conservation of birds in the territory of the MARISTANIS project?" by LIPU.
In the areas of MARISTANIS there are some globally endangered species such as the Eurasian skylark (Alauda arvensis), the European turtle dove (Streptopelia turtur), the pochard (Aythya ferina) and the lapwing (Vanellus vanellus), included in the list of species SPEC1 in the latest report BirdLife 2017. In the afternoon of February 2, in Terralba, in the rooms of the Museum of the Sea of Marceddì, from 15 to 17.30, the conference "The allied wetlands of man in the fight against climate change" promoted and coordinated by MEDSEA in collaboration with the municipal administration of Terralba.
Coastal wetlands are in fact effective "warehouses" for carbon: ecosystems that play a key role in mitigating the effects of climate change and in particular for greenhouse gas emissions. At the end of the conference, which will also present the project Maristanis, is scheduled, from 19 to 20.30, always at the Museum of the Sea of Marceddì, the concert "In te unde de Faber", on the routes of Fabrizio De André from Carloforte to Genoa through the mountains of Mola: Battista Dagnino - bouzouky guitar voice; Tonino Macis, mandoloncello guitar; Gerardo Ferrara, voice and percussion. Sunday, February 3, at 12 noon.00, at the Museum of the Sea in Marceddì, Daniela Ducato, entrepreneur of the Sardinian companies Edizero, Architecture for Peace, production of biomaterials made exclusively from surplus and residues of plants, animals and minerals, Francesca Caldara, responsible for the finger FAI - Saline Contivecchi, the mayor of Terralba Sandro Pili and the councillor for culture of Terralba Giulia Maria Elena Carta will award the winners of the PHOTOGRAPHIC CONTEST #SardiniaWetlands, promoted by the MEDSEA Foundation and coordinated by the Association of Italian Naturalist Photographers - Sardinia Section (AFNI). The contest was reserved for high school students of Sardinia.
Sunday will be a day full of 'open air' events: birdwatching activities in the wetlands around the pond of Cabras, birdwatching and walking in front of the ichthyic tourism of Marceddì, guided tour for the observation of cranes at the pond of Sa'e Proccus
