Closing a Month of Events for World Wetlands Day 2026

This year’s month dedicated to wetlands in Sardinia has gone. Organized in celebration of World Wetlands Day, the initiative featured more than 20 events held across the island, all focused on exploring and enhancing Sardinia’s wetlands and their cultural and identity heritage.

The theme of this year, “Wetlands and Traditional Knowledge”, offered an opportunity to rediscover the deep and inseparable bond between nature and the ancient traditions of local communities. Each activity provided a unique chance to fully immerse in these landscapes and understand the vital role wetlands play for the territory.

Among the most appreciated events were the workshop in Marceddì, featuring a live demonstration of the ancient weaving technique led by Rosalba Piras, and the walk through the S’Ena Arrubia Lagoon, which included a visit to the Sant’Andrea Fishermen’s Cooperative fish farm, followed by a seafood lunch at a food truck.

Throughout this month of events, we met passionate and curious people, built connections, and created new opportunities for dialogue. Most importantly, we were reminded that wetlands are also places of connection - spaces that invite us to slow down and reconnect with nature.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who took part in this month of celebrations dedicated to ponds and lagoons for World Wetlands Day. We look forward to seeing even more of you next year!
