Local COAST DAY
culture and landscape around the coastal wetlands of the Gulf of Oristano and the Sinis Peninsula
from 29-30 September 2018 and throughout October
Coast Day is an international event dedicated to the promotion of a sustainable use of coastal resources, to raise Mediterranean population awareness for the value of the coasts, of their conservation and of their protection for sustainable development.
Created in 2008 as part of the Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) campaign, it is coordinated by PAP/RAC, United Nations Agency, and promoted by the European Union's SMAP program and the World Bank's METAP project. In its previous editions, Coast Day has involved in Montenegro, Tunisia, Algeria, Croatia, Morocco, Spain, Slovenia, France, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Cyprus and Jordan.
This year the host of the International Coast Day will be Split, while in Sardinia the event will take place in Arborea and will involve all the municipalities of the Gulf of Oristano and the Sinis Peninsula, which participate in the project Maristanis: Arborea, Arbus, Cabras, Cuglieri, Guspini, Narbolia, Nurachi, Oristano, Palmas Arborea, Riola Sardo, San Vero Milis, Santa Giusta, Terralba.
The activities and events for the Coast Day will take place over the weekend of 29 and 30 September and will continue over the weekends of October. Coast Day aims to promote sustainable development, the enhancement of the Sardinian coast and to raise public awareness of environmental protection issues, cultural enhancement and sustainable development, regarding coastal wetlands.
The Local Coast Day will start on September 29th at the Ex-GIL space in Arborea with a public talk entitled LA COSTA CHE VORREI / nelle nostre biografie c'è di mezzo il mare, in which writers, architects, directors, sociologists, writers and journalists will discuss the theme of the protection and enhancement of the coastal landscape. The evening will continue immediately with the PECHAKUCHA NIGHT (PKN), an event dedicated to the dynamic and informal presentation of innovative projects. PKN aims to offer an opportunity for meeting, knowledge, dissemination and exchange between experts from different creative subjects, for example design, architecture, photography, art, social promotion and entrepreneurship.
Throughout the weekends of October, the Local Coast Day will continue with workshops, exhibitions, guided tours, walks, conferences, tastings, birdwatching by bike and kayak, activities dedicated to discovering the coastal wetlands of the Gulf of Oristano and the Sinis Peninsula.
In Sardinia, the Local Coast Day is organized and managed by the MEDSEA Mediterranean Sea and Coast Foundation and carried out as part of the MARISTANIS project.
