Our ambassador for the sea, Corrado Sorrentino, completed the Tour of Sardinia by swimming. On August 28, the arrival at Marina Piccola in Cagliari after 57 days at sea, 184 hours 50 minutes 28 seconds, and a total distance covered of 715,762km around Sardinia in 57 stages (12 km each).
During his journey Corrado also talked about the environmental threats in the sea. Here is the interview with Alessio Satta halfway through (in Italian).
Hundreds of people welcomed him on arrival for the accomplishment of an unique sporting challenge - never attempted before - but above all a charitable one: at each stage and online on Facebook and GoFundme, Corrado raised funds for the Amelia Sorrentino ODV Foundation, dedicated to his daughter who died a few years ago for a genetic malformation.

The funds raised by Corrado for the Foundation will go to the Microcitemico Pediatric Hospital of Cagliari - oncohematology department - for the purchase of a latest generation multi-parametric diagnostic monitoring machine.
Mission successfully accomplished: Corrado, on his tour of Sardinia, collected more than the 19,000 euros needed for the purchase.
“I knew I would have accomplished this challenge; my daughter Amelia was with me at each single swim” – Corrado said. Having achieved this goal, Sorrentino is already thinking about the next one: “The dream is to create a pediatric intensive care unit for all the children of Sardinia”. As well as “make sure that all this cheering and love from people who came together to support this challenge and mission doesn't go away and could be channeled towards new solidarity goals, for the others, for the children”.
